Mountain Adventures Day 25-28

Day 28 La Cueva Picnic Ground

I rode outside the wilderness area to Juan Tabo Picnic Ground and then back by way of the ridge on the North West side of the forest road.

Excellent views were to be had from the ridge to the West. It was mostly a push to get the top, but worth the effort, as you can see.

Day 27 Ojito de San Antonio Open Space

Pretty area in Ojito

This area has some rideable areas for bikes with trails leading to National Forest. I'd recommend taking the power line trail.

Day 26 Carlito Spring Open Space and Sandia District Ranger Station
Carlito Springs - IMBA spec trails, but no bikes allowed
Carlito Springs is a hiking destination. It has water and big trees, very near the city. I can attest that the trails are first rate! No bikes allowed, sadly, despite a press release from the contractor who made the trails to IMBA specifications. So I rode the area around the Sandia Ranger station instead.
Trail behind Sandia Ranger Station - also no bikes allowed
But just to the south from this site you can find informal trails where bikes are not prohibited.

Day 25 Three Gun Spring
Three Gun Spring
The national forest here can be ridden legally (outside the Wilderness). There is an adjacent open space area, which is the subject of a later post. The National forest here has a main trail and two parallel trails on adjacent ridges.

The ridge in the background of this photo has no trails, I am told, but it is public land - Cibola Nat'l Forest. Enticing prospect for future exploration.
